I hadn't heard of Hester van Eeghen before this but wow, she's instantly become one of my favorite handbag designers. The Dutch brand has spent more than twenty years building a cult following in Europe and although the bags have been available in the U.S. here and there the launch of the new U.S. website, HVEUS.com, is something I'm sure her American followers are more than a little excited about.Hester van Eaghen designs are colorful, structured, and an interesting blend of new and old styles that I can only think to describe as "contemporary retro." Each bag incorporates five elements into its design in some way: beauty, passion, shape, color, and surprise, and straps are also very important as Hester is often seen riding a bicycle to her studio in Amsterdam so having a bag that can hang from the handlebars (even evening bags!) is essential.
One of my favorites, in the gallery below, is called Monocle and blends happy colors of turquoise, purple, and pink in a softly structured way. It's a limited signature edition and as such comes numbered and signed by Hester van Eeghen herself. $750
